2013 NOVEMBER MUA HIGHLIGHT-CHARLI AVERY
Charli Avery is a freelance make-up artist based in London, doing something different in world where the idea of creativity is often forgotten about. With her passions lying in fashion, Charli combines high-end make-up with photography and film to create something which looks as striking in the pages of a lifestyle publication or runway as it does within a music video.
Charli has had a passion for make-up since the tender age of 4, when she used to steal her Mother’s Avon lipstick samples, and attend the rounds to clients houses when she used to work for the company. Charli graduated with a degree in fine art, majoring in colour theory and went on to earn a Level 3 diploma in theatrical and media make-up where she was awarded ‘student of the year.’
She has also completed an advanced make-up, hair, nail and airbrush course at the renowned academy AOFM in London. It is this basis in fine art which, when combined with her love for fashion photographic make-up, gives Charli a unique edge.
In the past couple of years alone she has assisted top make-up artists, worked at London Fashion Week, on shoots for clients such as Jodie Harsh and Threads TV, worked with celebrities, been the chief make-up artist on art house film ‘We Once Were Tide’ and worked on numerous photo shoots for clients and for her personal portfolio. Charli has a close relationship with online platform ‘The Creative Book’, and has had the honour to grace the front (and back) covers of both issues of the sister project, a published magazine called ‘The Quarterly’.In addition to her freelance work, Charli is also a lecturer at Bournemouth and Poole College, teaching on the level 3 Media Make-Up course.
