Submit a piece of art that shares your story and then join us on Sunday, October 20, from 3-5pm for a PUBLIC ATLAS walkabout in Reynoldstown and Cabbagetown. To participate, please email us here before October 8 for more details.

Civil Sounds Ecology at ELEVATE
WonderRoot is participating in ELEVATE 2013! On October 21 and October 22, WonderRoot is excited to work with artist William Schweigert to present Civil Sound Ecology. Inspired by the 1960 student sit-ins led by Lonnie King, Civil Sound Ecology explores how historical moments sound. Schweigert and a team of activists will walk the pavement at Trinity Ave. and Pryor St., passing out pamphlets and amplifying the re-imagined sounds of historical moments and places. Visit the ELEVATE website to learn more!
Digital Atlanta Art Party
Each year Digital Atlanta hosts an event that highlights the intersection of art and technology. This year, they’ve teamed up with WonderRoot to showcase Atlanta artists’ digital works and interactive media! Projects will aim to activate, enliven and interact with the audience of Digital Atlanta, who will then have a chance to vote for their favorite piece. The digital arts showcase will seek to create connections between the arts community and the technology and design communities. Join us on Wednesday, October 9 at Atlantic Station. Details here.
Two Shows at WonderRoot Gallery
We’ve got two great shows happening in the next week at WonderRoot Gallery. Currently on view through October 7 is STILL SOUND, photography by Carolyn Grady & Evelyn Quinones, in conjunction with A3C. Opening next Thursday, October 10 is Take a Photo, Leave a Photo. TAP/LAP is an interactive exhibition aimed to allow photographers to share their works through a trading exhibition while also collecting new photographs from contemporaries. Bring your printed photo to WonderRoot and exchange it for a photo in the TAP/LAP exhibition from October 10 – 31. Please email Stephanie Dowda for more info.
Join us on October 4 at 9pm at the WonderRoot Community Arts Center for an evening of poetry and spoken word from six emerging Atlanta-area writers: Daniel Beauregard, Caleb Bouchard, Christopher Martin, James Morton, Matthew Sherling and Rachel Trignano. $5 entrance fee for what promises to be a great night of friends and poetry!
WonderRoot’s newest Artists Helping Artists workshop is Function/Dysfunction. In this six week workshop, members will learn basic hand building skills so that they can create functional (or dysfunctional) ceramic dinnerware and wall tiles. The course will introduce students to illustrative underglaze and image transferring techniques, and will be held in WonderRoot’s ceramics studio. It will meet on Thursday evenings from 6-9pm from October 24th – December 5th. No prior experience is necessary. Sign up today to reserve your spot to come make something beautiful!
